About the conference

United Nations’ long term strategy towards 2030 aims at achieving a well-balanced pathway of sustainable development. To achieve those targets, concrete policy projects need to be designed, implemented and monitored.

Data - including social indicators - will play a major role in all of the phases of future policy cycles; it will be the entire system of existing basic statistics and accounts that will be used. Data gaps will have to be closed by developing and implementing new methods and evaluating new data sources. Hence, cooperation at global level will need to be enhanced.

Thus, the presentation will not only discuss the Sustainable Development Goals and their new set of indicators, but also touch on the data, and its availability, needed to measure progress towards the new goals.

About the speaker

Walter Rademacher is the Director General of Eurostat and Chief Statistician of the European Union. He has held various positions in the German Federal Statistical office Destatis including those of Vice-President, and President. He holds degrees in Business Economics from RWTH Aachen and Münster.
