The ABBL and Ineum Consulting update their Guide for Payment Services Providers
The ABBL and Ineum Consulting have updated their Guide for Payment Services Providers, "The Transposition of the PSD - Payment Services Directive in Luxembourg". Version 1.3 of the Guide takes into account the recent modification of the European Commission's transposition plans.
Rebuilding trust
On 30 July 2010, the ABBL held its traditional summer press conference. On this occasion, Ernst Wilhelm Contzen, the Chairman of the ABBL, held an introductory speech focusing, amongst others, on the need for financial centre actors to work closely together, the importance of communication, and the necessity to rebuild trust and improve the reputation of the financial centre.
First evaluation of the Fit4Job initiative: 26 jobseekers have successfully been re-employed
The first assessment of the pilot project Fit4Job, launched on 25 February 2010 by the the Ministry of Labour and the Department of Employment, the ABBL and the IFBL, and which actively accompanies and supports people in the financial sector in their efforts to find re-employment, turns out to be more than positive.
Indeed, on June 28, Minister of Labour Nicolas Schmit unveiled the results of this pilot project, which show that, thanks to Fit4Job, 26 jobseekers have successfully found re-employment and that 20 others are expected to follow suit in the very near future.
New version of the protocol of agreement on security in banks signed
The protocol of agreement on security in banks recommends security measures to protect persons and bank premises in case of bank hold-ups or any other physical attacks. The protocol was signed on 21 July by the ABBL, the personnel representation of the Banque et Caisse d’Epargne de l’Etat (BCEE), and the trade unions ALEBA, OGBL and LCGB, in the presence of the Minister of Finance, Luc Frieden, and the Minister for Home Affairs and the Greater Region, Jean-Marie Halsdorf.
The Payment Services Directive transposed in Greece
On 13 July 2010, the Payment Services Directive went live in Greece. The Greek law for the implementation of PSD was finally voted and published in the Greek Government Gazette on 13.7.2010 (issue A no 113/13.7.2010).
Law of 12 May 2010 reforming accident insurance
The reform on accident insurance, including work accidents, road accidents as well as work-related illness, has recently been published. While the main dispositions of the law will enter into force on January 1, 2011, the practical details for the reimbursement of material damages on vehicles apply as of June 1, 2010.
Assemblée générale du Private Banking Group, Luxembourg
En date du 15 juin 2010, le Private Banking Group, Luxembourg (PBGL), groupement de l’Association des Banques et Banquiers, Luxembourg (ABBL) fédérant les banquiers privés de la place, a tenu son Assemblée générale annuelle. Cet événement, rassemblant les banques privées membres, a été l’occasion de passer en revue les réalisations du secteur et de présenter ses ambitions pour l’avenir. Dans un contexte bancaire mondial en forte évolution, le Luxembourg a entamé en 2009 une réflexion sur le futur de son industrie. Organisés en groupes de travail spécialisés, les membres du PBGL ont consolidé leur vision du secteur et de ses enjeux. Fort de cette réflexion, le groupement transforme aujourd’hui son analyse en pistes d’actions concrètes.
Changement de direction chez LBLux
Départ à la retraite d’Henri Stoffel après 31 ans de services. Henri Stoffel porte-parole de la direction de la Banque LB Lux, partira à la retraite le 31 juillet 2010. Alain Weber vient d’être nommé au comité de direction. Il occupait jusqu’à présent le poste de membre adjoint de la direction. La direction de la Banque LB Lux reste donc composée de deux membres : Norbert Palsa et Alain Weber.
The ABBL hosts the European Banking Federation's Anti-Fraud & Anti-Money Laundering Committee and Physical Security Working Group
On 10 and 11 June 2010, the Luxembourg Bankers’ Association hosted the Anti-Fraud & AML Committee and the Physical Security Working Group of the European Banking Federation (EBF).
As a founding member of the EBF, the ABBL was pleased to be able to welcome representatives from the majority of banking associations across Europe in Luxembourg in order to discuss, amongst others:
- Anti-fraud activities and current developments at national levels, fraud prevention measures.
- Money laundering: discussions on the FATF work on beneficial ownership and tax crime as a predicate offense.
- Physical security: ATM security, bank robberies, cash in transit, tiger kidnapping.
