Ernst Wilhelm Contzen

Chairman

Ernst Wilhelm Contzen, born on 28 November 1948 in Cologne (Germany), passed his Junior Barrister Examination in Hamm in 1974 and his Assessor Examination in Düsseldorf in 1977.

In 1978, he embarked on his professional career with Deutsche Bank as a trainee at Deutsche Bank, Münster. This traineeship was followed by post as Account Officer at Deutsche Bank in Paris from 1981 to 1985. In 1985, he returned to Germany to take over as Head of the Credit & Consumer Department at Deutsche Bank, Göttingen.

In 1988, Ernst Wilhelm Contzen became Chief Executive Officer of Deutsche Bank Belgium in Brussels. After returning to Germany in 1993, he held the positions of Managing Director at Deutsche Bank, Bremen and Global Head of “Client Focus Initiative” at the Deutsche Bank headquarters in Frankfurt, respectively.

In January 1998, Ernst Wilhelm Contzen joined Deutsche Bank Luxembourg as Member of the Management Board. In July of the same year, he became the Chief Executive Officer of Deutsche Bank Luxembourg.

On 30 April 2010, Ernst Wilhelm Contzen was elected as Chairman of the Luxembourg Bankers’ Association (ABBL).

Carlo Thill

Vice-Chairman

Carlo Thill, born on 23 April 1953 in Luxembourg, holds a Master’s degree in Economics and has participated in various professional education programs including courses at The Wharton School, INSEAD and Stanford University.

Carlo Thill has been Chairman of the Management Board of BGL BNP PARIBAS Luxembourg since June 2005, and he is also a member of the Board of Directors.

Having joined the bank in 1978, he first worked in the Leasing, Factoring and Credit departments. From 1985 until 1998, he was Head of various departments including Risk Management, Marketing, Commercial and Retail Banking, Corporate and IT Planning as well as Human Resources.

In May 1998, he was appointed Member of the Management Board. Over the years, he has also chaired or been a member of the Board of Directors of the bank’s major subsidiaries.

On 30 April  2010 Carlo Thill was elected as Vice-Chairman of the ABBL.
