Ech kann dat och: online banking training programme

Given the rapidly changing financial sector, the Ministry of Consumer Protection proposed to initiate an e-banking training programme to address the disparities that had started to emerge. While the training programme set up by the non-profit organisation ErwuesseBildung in collaboration with the CSSF and the Fondation ABBL is aimed at all Luxembourg citizens, it is particularly designed for senior citizens, who are more vulnerable to the potential digital divide linked to the accelerated digitalisation of society.

Objective: At the end of this training (3×2 lessons, one unit per week), entitled “Ech kann dat och”, you will be familiar with online banking services, particularly with regard to security and confidentiality, and you will be able to carry out your banking operations with complete confidence and autonomy.

Ensuring equal access to digital skills

With COVID-19, the remote banking relationship has been strengthened, accelerating a digital transformation which was already underway. The majority of customers have become familiar with using online banking services to manage and carry out their daily operations. But what about those who are not yet comfortable with online banking? How can they be reassured, particularly with regard to the security and confidentiality of their data?

This financial education programme is part of a perspective of social, financial, digital and economic inclusion of all citizens, which corresponds to the missions of the State, the Ministry of Consumer Protection and the Ministry of Digitalisation more specifically. It reflects the commitment of the Luxembourg government to explore the many ways in which all citizens can be included in the transformation of society and to counteract the digital divide that risks dividing it. The challenge is to make digital technology an opportunity for all, a key to individual and collective, social and economic transformation. It thus defends the interests of all Luxembourg citizens, without exception, by guaranteeing everyone the same access to digital skills. The national coverage of this training is part of this desire to guarantee the same access to all citizens.

In concrete terms, the aim is to enable everyone to take control of their online banking operations. At the end of this training, participants will be familiar with online banking services, particularly with regard to security and confidentiality, and they will be able to carry out their banking operations with complete confidence and autonomy. ‘Ech kann dat och’ is the slogan of this training campaign.

The training started in mid-September 2021. It is offered as a separate module or as part of the Internet Führershein 1.0 offered by ErwuesseBildung.
