Encouraging financial literacy: Luxembourg students take part in the European Money Quiz

Published on 19 March 2026

Through the European Money Quiz, students in Luxembourg are strengthening their understanding of money, budgeting and financial risks from an early age.

Summary

Helping young people understand money and make informed decisions is becoming increasingly important. In Luxembourg, students recently took part in the European Money Quiz 2026, a competition designed to build essential financial skills in a practical and engaging way.

Learning about money in a practical way

The European Money Quiz, organised by the European Banking Federation together with national banking associations, is aimed at  students aged 13 to 15.

Through interactive questions, participants are introduced to key financial concepts such as:

    • budgeting and managing everyday expenses
    • understanding inflation
    • making informed financial decisions
    • recognising fraud and online risks

The initiative helps translate sometimes abstract financial topics into practical knowledge that young people can use in their daily lives.

    Strong participation across Luxembourg

In Luxembourg, the competition is coordinated by the Fondation ABBL pour l’éducation financière, as part of its broader mission to promote financial education and inclusion.

This year, 18 classes took part in the national selection, demonstrating strong engagement from both students and teachers. Their preparation and motivation contributed to a dynamic and rewarding learning experience.

Among them, a class from Lycée Ermesinde, guided by Mr Claude Wagner, achieved a perfect score and will represent Luxembourg at the European final.

    Supporting the next generation

Initiatives such as the European Money Quiz play an important role in preparing young people for a financial environment that is becoming increasingly digital and complex.

By learning early how to manage money, assess risks and understand financial products, students are better equipped to:

    • make informed choices
    • avoid common pitfalls, including fraud
    • build confidence in their financial decisions

    Next step: the European final

The Luxembourg team will take part in the European final in Brussels on 19 May 2026, alongside students from around 30 countries.

This next stage will offer an opportunity to further test their knowledge and represent Luxembourg at European level.

    A collective effort

The success of this initiative relies on the commitment of many stakeholders. The Fondation ABBL pour l’éducation financière would like to thank:

    • all participating students for their engagement
    • the teachers who supported them throughout the competition
    • Jessica Thyrion, who coordinated the competition in Luxembourg
    • Marc Welter, for his support
