ESAs Call for evidence on better understanding greenwashing

Published on 17 November 2022

The ABBL is assessing whether and how to contribute to the ESAs’ call for evidence, which aims to support a clearer and more consistent understanding of greenwashing among policymakers, investors and financial institutions.

Summary

On 15 November, the ESAs published a call for evidence on greenwashing to gather input from stakeholders to better understand the key features, drivers and risks associated with greenwashing and collect examples of potential greenwashing practices.

As the term is broadly – and sometimes erroneously – used, the need for building a better and common understanding of greenwashing is of utmost importance for policy makers as well as for investors and financial institutions.

To this end and given the European Commission’s significantly increasing focus on greenwashing-related risks, the ABBL will consider whether and how to respond to this call for input.
