Kick-off of the 12th edition of the Woch vun de Suen
Published on 16 March 2026
The Fondation ABBL pour l’éducation financière and the Ministry of Education launch a new edition of the Woch vun de Suen to help young people build essential money management skills from an early age.
Summary
From 16 to 20 March 2026, the Fondation ABBL pour l’éducation financière, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth, is rolling out the 12th edition of the Woch vun de Suen (Money Week). This flagship initiative aims to equip Cycle 4 pupils aged 10 to 12 with the practical skills they need to navigate an increasingly digital and complex financial world.
Financial education: more relevant than ever
In a world where money is becoming increasingly digital and financial decisions are taken earlier in life, financial education has become an essential life skill.
Young people today grow up in an environment marked by the widespread use of online payments, the rise of investment applications, the growing media attention around cryptocurrencies, and the multiplication of online fraud and scams. At the same time, social media circulate an increasing amount of financial advice, whose reliability is sometimes uncertain.
In this context, learning from an early age the fundamentals of responsible money management, understanding the value of money, learning how to budget and save, is key to helping young people make informed decisions and protect themselves against new risks.
Claude Meisch, Minister of Education, Children and Youth, underlined the importance of the initiative:
The Woch vun de Suen sends a strong signal of cooperation between actors committed to financial education. By raising awareness among children and teenagers about money and financial management, we equip them with essential tools to become responsible citizens and better prepare for the challenges of their future.

Budget management at the heart of the programme
In line with the mission of the Fondation ABBL pour l’éducation financière and the recommendations of the OECD, which encourage the teaching of financial skills from an early age to strengthen economic resilience, the programme places a strong focus on budget management.
Key concepts introduced to pupils include:
- budgeting for financial planning
- saving to cope with unexpected events
- responsible consumption and ethical financial choices
This proactive approach helps young people develop essential financial skills that will support their future autonomy and financial well-being.
Jerry Grbic, President of the Fondation ABBL pour l’éducation financière, emphasised the importance of early financial education:

A dynamic and engaging approach
This year, 76 volunteer trainers, including employees of ABBL member institutions, ABBL staff and representatives of the CSSF, are mobilised to deliver interactive workshops in schools.
In total, 1,040 pupils across 69 classes will take part in the programme.
One of the tools used during the sessions is Money Odyssey, an educational application developed by the Fondation ABBL pour l’éducation financière. The application offers an engaging introduction to the world of finance for children, young people and adults.
Designed to transform abstract financial concepts into practical experiences, Money Odyssey helps improve knowledge retention and encourages active learning.
The application covers a range of topics, including:
- the role of banks
- saving
- budgeting
- responsible consumption
Questions and learning paths are adapted to the user’s level.

European Money Quiz: on the road to Brussels
Ahead of the Woch vun de Suen, the national final of the European Money Quiz took place on 11 March.
This competition tests the knowledge of students aged 13 to 15 on topics such as inflation, investments, cryptocurrencies and protection against online fraud.
The class from Lycée Ermesinde achieved an impressive perfect score and will represent Luxembourg at the European final in Brussels on 19 May.
