Semaine du Logement: Banks are part of the housing solution
Published on 09 October 2025
The housing crisis is one of today’s major societal challenges, and banks are a key part of the solution. Through their financing activity, they support households, property developers and public entities, helping to turn housing projects into reality and expand the availability of homes across Luxembourg.
Summary
The figures speak for themselves (source: BCL):
- First half of 2025: 9,936 mortgages were granted for properties located in Luxembourg: +39.9% compared to the same period in 2024, representing a total volume of EUR 4.75 billion (+34.1%).
- Full year 2024: 16,056 property loans were granted: +18% versus 2023, for a total volume of EUR 7.81 billion (+8.8%).
By financing both access to housing and the development of new projects, banks contribute to a more sustainable and inclusive housing market, one that supports households, communities and long-term economic growth.
