On 20 October 2023, the EBF Legal Committee held its 154th meeting. What made this year’s meeting special? It was held in Luxembourg, on the premises of Spuerkees!

The initiative to hold meetings away from the EBF premises in Brussels was launched last year by the Chairman (Dr Mathias Otto, Deutsche Bank) and Luxembourg was designated as the host country for 2023. The ABBL took charge of the necessary organisation with the help of Spuerkeess, which hosted the meeting at its emblematic venue.

Various topics were discussed during the meeting, including the results and next steps of the joint ABBL-EBF conference “ECJ – access to requests for preliminary ruling for interested third parties” held at the Chamber of Commerce on 19 October 2023.

However, the most eagerly awaited intervention was the presentation by Vincent Thurmes, Director at the Luxembourg Ministry of Finance, who gave insightful reflections on the Capital Markets Union, the revision of the Payments Directive as well as the Banking Union. The presentation was followed by a Q&A session.

In the opinion of all participants, this meeting of the EBF Legal Committee was a great success and Luxembourg could well become a destination of choice for future meetings of the EBF Legal Committee, who knows?
