ABBL, ALFI and ACA hosted a Brussels reception to strengthen dialogue with EU decision-makers and promote a competitive European financial market.
Summary
Because ABBL, ALFI and ACA believe in an open dialogue with the European institutions, they constantly exchange views with decision makers and stakeholders about EU legislative proposals. To celebrate this relationship, the three associations and their joint EU Representative Office hosted a reception on 15 November at the historical Grande Place in Brussels. Were attending representatives of the European Parliament, the Council as well as stakeholders from the various European and national associations.
The chairmen Guy Hoffman, Jean-Marc Goy and Christian Strasser focussed their short speeches on the common theme of the importance of a well functioning internal market for the Luxembourg and European financial sector and economy at large.
Guy Hoffmann, Chairman of ABBL, stressed the importance of ensuring that the EU stays economically competitive and resilience in a period of major change. Furthermore, he called for the completion of the internal market, while stressing the significance of cross-border investments.
The Chairman of ALFI, Jean-Marc Goy, dedicated his intervention to reminding guests of how critical the EU market is and will be in the years to come. It remains indispensable for the fund industry, which prides itself on innovation, diversity, and accessibility. Moreover, he recalled the pivotal role of sustainability in the fund industry.
Finally, Christian Strasser, Chairman of ACA, focused his speech on eliminating barriers to the free flow of services and capital. At the same time, he underlined the need of creating a level playing field in the financial services sector and expressed his concerns about new subtle barriers erected by Member States and a comeback of what in some cases looks like protectionist measures.
All three as well as other distinguished members of the three associations managed to have fruitful exchanges of views with EU decision makers and stakeholders during an evening that was heart fully appreciated by the 120 guests as much as their hosts.
At the end of the vibrant networking session, accompanied by the customary drinks and bites prepared by a local catering service, ABBL members and staff embarked on a bus shuttle service organized for the occasion.
