LTS Hackathon – Financial inclusion at the heart of the ABBL Foundation’s agenda
Published on 10 July 2024
The ABBL Foundation is advancing financial inclusion in Luxembourg by supporting innovative FinTech solutions and financial education through the Luxembourg Tech School Hackathon.
Summary
The 8th FinTech Hackathon organised by the Luxembourg Tech School (LTS) took place from 5 to 7 July 2024.
As the main mission of the Fondation ABBL pour l’Éducation Financière is to promote financial education in Luxembourg, it was obvious that the Foundation would once again play an active role in the 2024 edition of the “Crafting the future of finance with innovative solutions” hackathon dedicated to financial inclusion.
The different talented teams presented their projects on 7 July and were evaluated by a jury.
And the winner is…
The Pr0vy team reached the top of the podium with a project for an online banking system designed to help financially excluded citizens, such as refugees, homeless people and international students, to manage their tasks during their first three-month stay in Luxembourg, the period required to be able to open a bank account.
The ABBL and its Foundation for Financial Education supported this hackathon by providing mentorship (Hélène Lange), evaluation (Jessica Thyrion) and preparation support (Andrey Martovoy).
A collaborative network
The Foundation regularly supports the LTS in various projects relating to financial education and therefore financial inclusion. For example, it provides knowledge to consumers of financial products through its budget management training programme. The Foundation is increasingly called upon by Luxembourg’s socio-educational institutions to provide courses for financially excluded people. Furthermore, at national level, the ABBL is a member of the Inclusive Finance Network (InFiNe).
What’s next?
The Foundation’s previous hackathon gave the 2021 winners the opportunity to expand their project by working together to create the Sécher am Internet platform, which aims to familiarise citizens with online banking through a series of themed chapters on topics such as digital identity, password management, two-factor authentication and the right reflexes to avoid online fraud.
The next joint project is already in the starting blocks: a training programme to be launched this autumn as a pilot project by the LTS.
