Driving Sustainable Finance through Technology

Published on 25 September 2024

ABBL is driving sustainable finance by supporting green FinTechs through the Catapult accelerator, helping innovative companies develop technology solutions for ESG reporting, regulatory compliance, and climate-focused financial services.

Summary

Last week, the ABBL played an active role in the “Catapult: Green FinTech” accelerator program, a one-week bootcamp for green FinTech firms supported by the Luxembourg House of Financial Technology (LHoFT) and the Luxembourg Sustainable Finance Initiative (LSFI).

The ABBL coaches Fintechs addressing sustainability challenges

Ten companies selected from all over Europe for the program, with some of them being start-ups, are tackling some of the most pressing challenges the banking sector faces in sustainable finance: measuring investment impact, complying with new ambitious regulations, and collecting and reporting data.

ABBL representatives – Thomas Collin, Officer – Sustainability / CSR and Andrey Martovoy, Senior Adviser – Innovation & Digital made a keynote presentation highlighting how FinTechs are essential in addressing complex issues like regulatory compliance and data collection, which are crucial as the financial industry shifts capital flows toward more sustainable activities.

Furthermore, Thomas and Andrey provided focused coaching sessions to help several selected FinTechs to refine their business pitches and explore opportunities related to sustainable finance in Luxembourg. These sessions were aimed at strengthening their value propositions, including cost and time-saving solutions by means of novel technologies, or assessing the environmental footprints of investee companies and portfolios.

    Collaborating for sustainable finance

The selected FinTechs covered a broad range of activities, from providing a marketplace for carbon removal projects, to making sustainable finance data more accessible and actionable. Other FinTechs leverage satellite data and AI to optimise climate investment strategies.

The success of this acceleration program shows the need for increased collaboration between traditional finance and cutting-edge green FinTechs to drive environmental impact and simplify regulatory alignment.

    Our commitment to green Fintechs

That is why the ABBL has recently onboarded a growing number of sustainability-driven FinTechs to its Fintech Circle, a dedicated platform tailored for FinTech firms interested to get in touch with ABBL members. Going forward, ABBL will continue to foster a thriving partnership ecosystem between green FinTechs and banks to support the sustainable transition of banking and financial services.
