Helping young people design the future of financial wellbeing

Published on 06 July 2026

The Fondation ABBL pour l’Éducation Financière supported the 10th Luxembourg Tech School FinTech Hackathon, where students developed innovative digital solutions to help young people better manage their financial lives.

Summary

At the 10th Luxembourg Tech School FinTech Hackathon, students imagined digital solutions to help their generation better understand, manage and grow their financial lives.

How can technology help young people prepare for financial independence? How can digital tools make saving, investing or managing money more accessible and engaging?

These were some of the questions explored during the 10th Luxembourg Tech School (LTS) FinTech Hackathon, organised in partnership with the Fondation ABBL pour l’Éducation Financière and the Luxembourg House of Financial Technology (LHoFT). Over three days, students worked together to design innovative digital solutions around this year’s theme: “Safe and Growing: My Financial Life.”

Celebrating its tenth anniversary, the hackathon once again demonstrated the value of bringing together education, technology and the financial sector to inspire the next generation of digital innovators.

From everyday challenges to innovative ideas

Rather than approaching the challenge from the perspective of financial institutions, students started from their own experiences and the financial questions young people face as they prepare for adult life.

Working in teams, they designed and developed prototype applications addressing topics such as saving, budgeting, investing and improving financial literacy. Throughout the weekend, mentors from the financial, technology and innovation sectors challenged their ideas, shared practical insights and helped transform initial concepts into convincing prototypes.

The weekend concluded with a pitch competition, during which each team presented its solution before a jury bringing together representatives from the banking, regulatory, innovation and education communities.

Representing the ABBL, Galina Miroshnichenko, Adviser – Digital Banking & Payments, joined the jury alongside experts from the CSSF, Banque de Luxembourg, the LHoFT and the Luxembourg Tech School.

    Financial education through innovation

For the Fondation ABBL pour l’Éducation Financière, supporting initiatives such as the LTS FinTech Hackathon reflects a long-term commitment to strengthening financial literacy and helping young people develop the skills they will need throughout their financial lives.

By combining technology, creativity and practical problem-solving, the hackathon encourages students to explore financial topics in a hands-on way while developing teamwork, presentation and entrepreneurial skills.

What impressed me most was how naturally the students focused on real-life situations that matter to young people. Their projects showed that financial education can be engaging, practical and technology-enabled, while some ideas also demonstrated potential to complement existing banking services.

A decade of inspiring future digital leaders

Supported by the Ministry of Education, the Luxembourg Tech School has spent the past ten years helping young people develop digital, technological and entrepreneurial skills through practical, project-based learning.

The annual FinTech Hackathon is one of the programme’s flagship initiatives, giving students the opportunity to transform ideas into prototypes while receiving feedback from professionals working across Luxembourg’s financial and technology ecosystem.

For the ABBL Foundation, this collaboration reflects a shared ambition: helping young people become confident, informed and responsible participants in tomorrow’s digital economy.

The ABBL congratulates all participating students, mentors, jury members and organisers for making this tenth edition another success.
