Unlocking the potential of APIs

Published on 28 February 2024

The ABBL, API Thinking Collective and AppyThings brought together more than 70 experts to explore API security, data management, Open Finance, technical implementation and business strategies in financial services.

Summary

In a rapidly changing technology landscape, it’s imperative for financial institutions to stay one step ahead. Last week, the ABBL joined forces with the API Thinking Collective and AppyThings for a deep dive session into the world of application programming interfaces (APIs). More than 70 experts came together to exchange views on data management, security, technical aspects and business strategies related to APIs.

The event proved timely as regulatory frameworks continue to shape the way financial institutions operate. A recent proposal from the European Commission for a regulation on access to financial data highlights the growing importance of sharing customer financial data with external parties, subject to customer consent.

The forum enabled participants to explore API strategies in greater depth, exploring both the technical intricacies and the commercial implications. Concrete data management cases and implementation experiences from the banking sector were shared, enriching the dialogue and fostering collaborative learning.

On behalf of Appythings, we would like to express our gratitude for organising this event in collaboration with the ABBL and API Thinking Collective. This deep dive session into the world of application programming interface (API) security and related business strategies lived up to its promise. The quality of the participants and speakers provided concrete feedback and inspiring discussions. We look forward to seeing the Luxembourg API ecosystem again very soon!

What a pleasure it was to bring the local ecosystem together for a productive morning. The exchanges, both with the speakers and during the networking sessions, were enriching for all the participants!

The presentations were appreciated for their quality: Galina Miroshnichenko on the challenges of Open Finance, Wynand Vorster on the importance of API security, as well as the technical presentation by Emmanuel Pichon and Didier Pirottin from BGL BNP Paribas, on the advantages of implementing a GraphQL-based Data Access Layer. Finally, Koen Adolfs provided valuable insight into the governance of ABN AMRO Bank NV. We look forward to another successful API event next year!
