Save the date – From de-risking to effective AML/CFT risk management
This event is reserved for ABBL members.
The ABBL, in collaboration with the CSSF and the Ministry of Justice, will bring together key stakeholders for a dedicated AML/CFT conference focusing on a key challenge for both policymakers and financial institutions: managing financial crime risks effectively without unnecessarily restricting access to financial services.
Moving beyond de-risking starts with effective risk management. The conference will explore this issue from international, European and Luxembourg perspectives, drawing on the ongoing work of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and the Authority for Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AMLA), as well as insights from national authorities and the financial sector.
The event will provide an opportunity to discuss current developments and ongoing work at international, European and national level, and their practical relevance for financial institutions.

The conference will address:
- Understanding de-risking: what it means, why it matters and how it can be avoided
- International perspectives: FATF developments and ongoing work on the risk-based approach, proportionality and financial inclusion
- European perspectives: AMLA’s emerging approach and ongoing work relevant to effective AML/CFT risk management
- Luxembourg perspectives: supervisory and policy considerations for the practical application of a proportionate, risk-based approach
- Translating the risk-based approach into effective money laundering and terrorist financing (ML/TF) risk management while preserving access to financial services
- Exchange of views between authorities and the financial sector

The conference will bring together representatives from the Ministry of Justice, the CSSF, the ABBL and the financial sector.
